Milk Sampler-Weigher

General Job Description

Samples and weighs or measure raw farm milk to properly determine compensation to the producers by milk buyers. A sampler-weigher may be a hauler, transporter, or submits samples in the state of Kentucky.

Licensing Requirements

  • Sampler-weighers must submit a signed application and pay the application/testing fee of $15.00. They will be issued a temporary license for 90 days during which they must attend Hauler School for their examination.
  • New sampler weighers must attend the next available quarterly training, referred to as Hauler School, and pass the written exam with a minimum score of 70% to receive an official license.
  • All licenses expire on June 30 annually.
  • Licenses may be renewed by submitting a renewal application with the $15 renewal fee.
  • There are no age or residency requirements.
  • Health requirements must conform to established standards.
  • Kentucky has no formal reciprocity agreement with any other state, however, we may offer reciprocal licensing upon request with the general application and fee. Please contact Regulatory Services for more information.

Milk Tester

General Job Description

Test raw milk, for fat content, in order to properly determine compensation to be paid to producers for their farm-produced milk.
Licensing Requirements
  • Milk Testers must submit a signed application and pay the application/testing fee of $15.00 to receive a temporary license.
  • New Milk Testers must pass the written and hands on exam within 90 days with a minimum score of 70% to receive an official license. Examination by appointment suitable to the applicant and regulatory agency.
  • Should you fail, retake by submitting reexamination fee of $15.00. Date will be set by mutual agreement between the applicant and regulatory agency.
  • Licenses may be renewed by submitting a renewal application with the $15 renewal fee.
  • There are no age or residency requirements.
  • Health requirements must conform to established standards.

Handler Information

General Job Description A Kentucky processor that issues payment to or receives milk from Kentucky producers.
Licensing Requirements
  • Submit an application and payment.
  • All handler licenses expire on June 30th of each fiscal year
  • Renewals must be a postmark on or before July 1st of that same fiscal year or a late fee of an additional $25.00 or 10% of the amount due, which ever is greater is due.

Laboratory

Licensing Requirements:

  • Laboratory license are issued to locations where permitted producers’ milk is tested. The fee for this license is $25.00.
  • All Laboratory License expire on June 30thof each fiscal year
  • Renewals must be renewed with a postmark on or before July 1stof that same fiscal year or a late fee of an additional $15.00 is due.
