Kentucky's Hemp Program for Producers
Administration
Kentucky's hemp program is administered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA). This is where those interested in Kentucky's hemp industry should start.
Research
The Science of Hemp: Plant Health and Pest Management is an annual scientific conference that covers topics of interest to producers. The proceedings from the meetings are published and have an abundance of useful information.
The University of Kentucky Department of Plant and Soil Science is is focused on investigating the agronomic parameters affecting field-scale production of industrial hemp. The resulting research and extension efforts are aimed at optimizing yields and profitability from grain, fiber, and cannabinoid production models for U.S. producers. Find more information here.
Our Role
Our Division analyzes hemp grown in Kentucky to ensure the plants are industrial hemp and not marijuana. Inspectors from KDA obtain samples of hemp close to harvest time, dry them, and deliver them to us for analysis. We also administer a proficiency testing program for laboratories.
Where can I get my hemp tested? The USDA maintains a list of labortories.
