PVPO list of US Protected Varieties (External Link)

The link provided will access the Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO) listing of U.S. Protected Varieties. This listing is an all inclusive listing of PVPO applications for certificates and their status as expired, withdrawn, abandoned, or issued. The listing is alphabetical by seed kind name, but the variety name listing is not alphabetical so a quick scan of the variety names listed for a seed kind is necessary if searching for a particular variety name.

Protection for issued certificates is 20 years from the from the status date listed. This status can be changed prior to the 20 year period if the applicant fails to comply with the terms and conditions specified by the Plant variety Protection Act.

A "yes" in the certified seed option column means the applicant has chosen to require that the variety be sold only as a class of certified seed. These varieties are also protected by Title V of the Federal Seed Act and are sometimes referred to as "Title V" varieties. Title V of the Federal Seed Act requires that these varieties must be certified if they are moved in interstate commerce.

Soybean Variety/Brand Database

This Database (.xls) is a compilation of the soybean variety names and brands shown on the seed analysis tags taken from official samples collected in Kentucky during 2005 and 2006.
